- Eat candy and other sugary foods with meals. Increase in saliva production helps cancel out acid production by bacteria and helps rinse away food particles.
- Avoid hard candy and candy that stays in your mouth for a long time like lollipops. The longer sugary foods are in your mouth, the higher the risk for tooth decay.
- Avoid candy that clings to your teeth. Sticky candies take a longer time to get washed away.
- Drink plenty water. Fluoridated water hardens the surface of teeth.
- Maintain a healthy diet. Choosing healthy foods and snacks throughout the day will help you keep healthy teeth and gums.
- Avoid beverages with added sugar. Tooth decay increases with frequent contact of sugary drinks like sodas and sports drinks.
- Consume products with Xylitol. Xylitol is a natural sugar that inhibits the bacteria that cause cavities. More importantly, kids love the taste of it!
- Brush your teeth twice daily. Don’t forget to replace your toothbrush every 3 to 4 months.
- Floss daily. Cleaning between teeth with floss helps pick up plaque which toothbrush bristles can’t reach.
- Visit a dentist. Maintaining regular dental visit and hygiene cleanings can help prevent problems from occurring.
