Hello Fall… Hello October! Lets join hands to increase awareness of a healthier you and a healthier smile!
I’m Dr. Jivan, Mount Dora’s Cosmetic, Implant, and Family Dentist. October is a very exciting time of year and starts off the holiday season with Halloween! We all enjoy treats now and then, but don’t forget about keeping our mouths clean and healthy year round. A healthy smile starts at home.
National Dental Hygiene Month focuses on maintaining good oral health:
-
Keeping those six (6) month recall appointments
-
Brushing teeth twice daily
-
Flossing every day
-
Rinsing with mouthwash
Brushing tips for your family:
-
Start early:
-
For babies – use a wash cloth to wipe gums
-
For toddlers with teeth – start brushing them even if there is just one tooth.
-
Make your child’s first dental appointment before the age of 3 to get them use to dental visits.
-
-
Using a toothbrush with soft bristles are easier on the gums.
-
Place toothbrush along the gum line at a 45-degree angle which should contact both the tooth surface and the gumline.
-
Use a circular motion to brush the gumline and outer surface
-
Tilt brush vertically behind the front teeth and make several up & down strokes
-
Use a gentle back & forth scrubbing motion for the biting surface.
-
DON’T forget to brush the tongue. Bacteria does not only hide between teeth but also on your tongue.
